Less CO2, more future – Andermatt Group for a greener world!
Greenhouse gas emissions for the entire Group were calculated for 2023 based on the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol. We have set ourselves milestones and are pursuing the targets by means of specific measures. The Andermatt Group has set itself the goal of reducing directly caused greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2040, and indirectly caused emissions by 2050.
CO2 emissions and development
Directly generated emissions
For example, we can directly influence the emissions we generate for heating or electricity, and these are our top priorities. All companies defined specific measures to reduce emissions during 2024. These measures were implemented during 2024 and will be visible as reduced CO2 emissions in 2025.
Using more efficient steam generators at AbiTEP GmbH and the standardization of room temperatures at other companies will save 194’169 kWh of heating power and consequently reduce emissions by around 45 tCO2. In the electricity category, we expect a saving of 23 tCO2, mainly achieved by Biofa AG switching 25’213 kWh from coal to solar.
Indirectly generated emissions
Emissions caused by our suppliers or by our employees traveling to work are something we want to influence positively, but we cannot control them completely. We have also drawn up a catalog of measures for these emissions.
Looking ahead, we anticipate a reduction of 497 tCO2 in the business travel category. Andermatt do Brasil is making a significant contribution to this by using ethanol-powered instead of petrol-powered vehicles. Other companies are reducing their business travel mileage or making it more environmentally friendly.
Conclusion
With the comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory from 2023, we have created a data-based starting point. Based on this, we have compiled local measures to help us achieve our medium-term target. While we cannot control indirect emissions, we will gather experience over the next few years on the extent to which our suppliers can reduce greenhouse gases independently. We therefore estimate the degree of target achievement at 80%.
