Celebrating Women at Andermatt
For over 35 years, Andermatt has been a global leader in the development, production, and distribution of biological solutions to replace chemical pesticides. It was founded by Dr Martin and Dr Isabel Andermatt, whose vision is to achieve a ‘Healthy Food and Healthy Environment, for all.’
Women have always played a vital role in the company’s success and, with 48% of the workforce being female, International Women’s Day on the 8th of March is the perfect opportunity to celebrate their contribution to Andermatt. This year we highlight Silvana Niedermann, one of 303 female employees at Andermatt, whose commitment to sustainable agriculture and a healthier environment is truly inspiring.
Silvana joined the Andermatt Group in January 2025 as International Business Director and a member of the Management Board. Previously, she held the same role at Andermatt Biocontrol Suisse (ABCS) for 5 years, specializing in baculovirus. With Silvana’s proven ability to drive global business expansion and her background in Agricultural Science, she has the essential know-how to successfully advance Andermatt’s vision and navigate the global business landscape. Her strategic vision and leadership will be pivotal in strengthening Andermatt’s global presence and expanding international business.
We caught up with Silvana to learn more about her role and vision for the future.
Tell us about your background.
I grew up in northeastern Switzerland with my parents and two sisters. My parents ran a butcher shop. They worked incredibly hard, and their dedication shaped my strong work ethic.
My curiosity led me to study geography, which sparked my interest in agriculture. I pursued a master’s degree in Agricultural Science and was fortunate to travel widely during my studies. Today, my partner and I have two little boys, and being a good role model to them is my top priority.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, gardening, hiking, and spending time with loved ones – cherishing the small, joyful moments in life.
What drew you to Andermatt, and why did you take on this new role?
I have always been passionate about sustainable agriculture and biodiversity, making Andermatt a natural fit. I joined Andermatt 10 years ago right after university and I have never looked back. I look forward to many more years with Andermatt, committed to working towards our shared vision of sustainability.
Andermatt is home to incredibly talented and passionate individuals. I have learned so much from my colleagues, and the new role allows me to broaden my perspective and contribute to Andermatt’s international growth.
What role does the International Business team play?
Our team represents Andermatt in countries without local subsidiaries, helping expand our presence and bring biological solutions to new markets.
Beyond sales, we gather market insights that shape new products and strategies. Our daily interactions with global customers help strengthen Andermatt’s reputation as a trusted provider of high-quality solutions.
What is your vision for the International Business team?
Andermatt is sometimes referred to as the “best-kept secret” in the industry. My goal is to change that by promoting stronger collaboration across our network.
We should always be asking how we can learn from each other. And where we can provide more support.
I am proud to work with a motivated team striving to make Andermatt’s impact better known worldwide.
You are the first woman on the Management Board and working part-time. How has that experience been?
In Switzerland, reaching senior management roles while working part-time is still challenging – especially for women, who often feel pressured to choose between their careers and their families.
I was fortunate to be promoted to lead International Business at ABCS in my early 30s and, being a woman, and later a mother, has not been an issue. I’ve always felt supported at Andermatt, which values collaboration and talent over rigid structures.
Balancing work and family is hard for any parent, and it really does take a village, also at work. Supportive colleagues, flexible schedules, and shared responsibilities make it possible. I believe working part-time can have multiple benefits for businesses as it encourages clear communication, transparency, and teamwork.
What is your BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal)?
To build a work culture where success is not tied to where or how many days someone works – but to impact, collaboration, and results. By focusing on customer relationships, employee well-being, and company growth, we can ensure Andermatt remains an industry leader for years to come.
